Valeriy Bukharkov. The Device for Fixing of Optical Distortion

The specific character of the exposition space was determined by the direction of the activity of the educational institutions, studios and workshops that took part in this project. The main aim of these institutions is to develop children’s artistic aspirations and to encourage their creative pursuits till the moment when children make their occupational choice. In general, the activities of these institutions are not aimed at children’s career guidance. They are more likely oriented to the development of the values and personal qualities of a child with the help of pedagogical support. Another important fact is that education is based on academic tradition with its emphasis on drawing, painting and composition studies.

The framework of an educational programme does not always provide for a purposeful introduction to contemporary art as well as working with its forms. In that respect, the Studio for Art Design (Moscow) and children’s multimedia studio “M-ART” (Saint-Petersburg) that work in the sphere of media art, media design and information technology can be called the only exceptions.

Victoria Meretskay. Secret

Representatives of about 25 educational institutions from Moscow and Saint-Petersburg displayed interest in participating in the triennial exhibition in Tallinn. The present exposition consists of the artworks of 70 participants guided by 12 teachers. The majority of the authors are between 14 and 16 years of age. Older participants aged 16-19 are represented by several works created by the students of art high schools.

Socio-cultural environment, that is, the world beyond oneself, and personal space, that is, the world of personal interests, sensations and feelings, appeared to be the two most exciting themes for the participants of the present exhibition.
