From 20th – 22nd of September the first workshop of the project “IDEAlaboratory: how to integrate contemporary art and art education”, titled as “Contemporary approaches in art education” took place in Riga, Latvia. 20 participants from seven partner schools in Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Portugal participated at the meeting.

The project “IDEAlaboratory” is seeking good experiences how to better teach contemporary art from the partners’ everyday practice, and creates new experience during the project. The meeting in Riga concentrated on introducing the contemporary art projects conducted in partner schools, with the focus on using ICT-based methods. Examples included possibilities of telling traditional folk tales by the means on new media, aspects of visual communication, collaboration with local community in teaching art, technological possibilities etc. A thorough overview of Janis Rozental Riga Art High School was received. Shared experiences were inspiring and created a common understanding of the need to share good practices on the planned web platform.

Another aim of the meeting was to discuss and decide the future working order of the project. The structure and content of the web platform was discussed, the focuses of the next workshops and local activity were set, communication, distribution of tasks and impact of the project were discussed.
