Eduardas Balsys Gymnasium of Arts was established in Klaipeda in 1983. Gymnasium offers primary, basic, secondary and art education for pupils aged 6-19.
In association with the secondary education department there are Music and Art departments in which more than 500 pupils from Klaipeda city and other regions of Lithuania have possibility for studying.
To the Music department pupils are enrolled from the first form while to the department of Art they are taken from the fifth form.
Gymnasium develops and implements the curriculum of primary, basic, secondary and artistic education.
Secondary education curriculum is made up of the following subjects: Lithuanian language, foreign languages ( English, German), mathematics, history, ethics/religion, physical education, ITC,
subsidiary: physics, chemistry, biology.
Subjects of Art education: drawing, painting, graphics, sculpture, design, textile, ceramics, fashion design, stained glass design, art history.
Subjects of Musical education: piano, percussion, string instruments, wind instruments, choir conducting, organ, theoretical preparation in music.
At the end of the twelfth form students must take general secondary education or state exams and some exams of artistic education curriculum which give them a possibility for entry to higher
education institutions. More than 80% school graduates continue art and music studies in universities and academies in Lithuania and abroad.
Students from departments of Music and Art participate in various projects and are winners in international and regional competitions, contests, exhibitions or festivals.
Pupils are taught by professional pedagogical staff who are not only well-qualified specialists, but active participants in cultural life as well.
Gymnasium collaborates with similar schools in Lithuania and foreign countries and is open to new changes and creative ideas.
